The Black and Blue

Due to the record numbers of yesterdays blog I only found it fitting that we discuss the NFC North a little further.  Personally after Monday knight I have lost any faith of a true contender in this division.  So lets go through all four teams.  Starting with the worst the Detroit Lions.  This team could be the weakest team in the NFL and after the Rams beat the Redskins they most likely are.  Every year Lions fans believe that there team is better and that they will be .500 this year.  The truth is the Lions are long way away from a .500 season they need ta clean house and start from scratch.  A realistic goal for a .500 season for these guys would be about three years once Stafford has fully developed his QB skills.  Now ta the third worst team in this division the Minnesota Vikings.  I must say I am shocked at this years performance thus far.  I really thought they would take that loss at the end of the 2010 season and use it to spark up a good start this year.  Instead they almost started the season 0-3.  There are many things wrong with this team, and there are some really good things about this team.  Number one they have some injury problems and it would help ta have your whole team every week.  Number two and I believe this is the biggest problem, they got Brett Favre.  And they don't have the great charismatic gonna throw bombs for touchdowns Favre they got the I am going ta throw a whole lot of interceptions Favre.  I mean he has pretty much thrown as many picks in three games then he did all of last season.  Ya the Vikes got Peterson and a semi-tough defense, but be honest the don't look like the same team as last year.  I have the Vikes going 8-8 and praying that Favre hangs it up finally.  The next team is the Green Bay Packers.  As I can see it most of my readers are Packer fans so I will let you defend yourself.  The way I see it is amazing quarterback, great D-Fense, decent wide outs, and after that it gets sad real sad.  Unless GB wants ta get 18 penalties a game they need ta get a whole new offensive line.  I think its bad enough that these guys are still there.  The offsides and holding calls were going on all of last year and they have done nothing to combat this problem.  But the biggest problem with Green Bay the one thing that is holding them back from being a contender is Mike McCarthy.  Sorry guys this coach is not the answer, he proved that again on Monday.  Packers are gonna go 9-7 this year. Now the final team the Chicago Bears the best of the worst you could say.  The Bears work like this, "hey we don't have a offense but we got a killer D that gets turnovers and a special teams that produces touchdowns".  But you know what that works for the Bears that's all they need ta win this division.  They made it all the way ta the Superbowl playing this type of football.  The only thing that has changed really is they got a really good QB now.  Now I cant say that the Bears are gonna go ta the Superbowl this year because I believe the league has gotten a lot tougher since they made it.  But I will say the Bears go 11-5 and make it to the playoffs and are the only team in the NFC North ta do so.  I know bold statement, especially since I know a lot of the readers are fans of this division.  But am I really far off here, I don't think so.  Now I am thankful for how the blog blew up yesterday and now we need a repeat day.  So leave your comments and tell everyone you know, also click on the ads and links on the right hand side of this web page it increases popularity and traffic to the blog.---------------Mikey C

  1. Dont agree with any of this, I'm just going to be blunt and state my reasoning. The division is going to finish like this Packers, Vikings, Bears, and Lions. How the hell can anyone compare this Bears defense to the 05 team? It's no where near as good, they rank 28th against the pass, and there run defense hasn't played anyone yet. What's that you say, how can the Bears run defense be bad and yet ranked #1 in the NFL? Because they have faced 3 teams who have no running game. I'm not impressed because they can stop the 22nd, 26th, and 31st running games. Sorry Chupita but theres not a single aspect about this blog that I agree with other than the Lions. The Packers and Vikings both have much better defenses. The numbers talk.

  2. I agree with glen on this one. The Packers have a very solid defense along with an impressive offense. Their flaws are obviously the o line and the lack of a run game. The Vikings finish second solely on Adrian Peterson, I mean come on the guy can't be stopped. Brett will get his issues straitened out with the return of Sidney Rice, and hopefully stop turning the ball over. The Bears will finish third, their lack of offense will be displayed in every game of the season. Hester is a good return man, but not an immediate threat like he once was. The lions, well I think its safe to say will unanimously be picked to finish last.

  3. It's not the Bears offense thats the problem it's the defense, they have a good passing game despite the receivers, a lot of that credit goes to Forte as he is the real big threat to their passing game. The defense is not that good aside from Peppers and an aging linebacking corps. Yes they created the big turnover last game, but you cant predict how often they are going to create big turnovers and unless they do it consistently the defense will be their downfall.

  4. Glen there is nothing wrong with the bears d whatsoever ta put the vikings ahead of them is just a complete joke just cuz there ur favorite team doesnt mean that u have ta lie, you and i both know the vikes dont look anything like they did last year, why you ask because Favre doesnt have it anymore, Rice being back wont change a thing Favre has always been known for making stars out of no name recievers so lack of talent in the WR area is not the reason for him not performing

    ReplyDelete
  5. Theres a lot wrong with the Bears D, and bias isn't why I think the Vikings are a better team. The only thing that makes me believe the Bears could finish 2nd is strength of schedule. Favre doesn't have it, and he didn't last year either. Favre numbers were pretty and all but the fact is no one took him seriously last year and they let him do whatever he wanted. As bad as I think Favre is he would only have 2-3 picks this year if Rice was around, because hes throwing the same dumbass passes he was throwing last year but he doesnt have someone who can compensate for that anymore. Peterson, Shiancoe, and Harvin are all great talents who will make sure the offense improves a bit. Their D is surprising, I expected the stout run D but the fact that they are top 10 against the pass is a shocker, and I dont think that will hold up. But I agree totally on what your saying about Favre, and if the Vikings do as bad as you think they will, then I would agree that it would be on Favre.

  6. ya glen i mean without favre doing well there gonna go 8-8, cuz too much pressure will be but on AP unlike last year where the vikes were a passing team. AP's history of fumbles and injury are scary and if teams start preparing for a run only vikes it wont be too long before those tendencies show up. 8-8 might be bold but the vikes havent shown that there better than that yet and a top ten passing d come on glen we both no its way to early ta be looking at those statistics

    ReplyDelete
  7. well the Vikes went 10-6 the year before Favre came with pretty much the same team and T-Jack actually blew 2 games early that year. That team was all AP. And combining that with my preseason feeling that AP will have the best year of his career this year is why I think they will be okay. His fumbles actually weren't a big issue until the NFC Championship game, yes he does lead the league in that category in year since hes been in the NFL, but most of his early career fumbles actually were handoff issues. Anyways. This is how I look at it, they will struggle till week 8, the best they could finish is 5-2. Not likely. If they can get out of the first half at 3-4 they will be in good shape. There next 4 games will tell us a lot about their season, and i'm basing all of this on who they play not whether rice will be back or not. And I bring up the stats because although they dont mean a lot they do help show us how team are doing compared to the rest of the league, and if you look at my last post again you will see I already stated that the pass d stats wont hold, they will prolly finish around 22nd 23rd.

    ReplyDelete
  8. ok then they wont hold lol and Favre was the poster child of the offense last year he lead the vikes if he doesnt perform the same they are gonna struggle run only teams never succeed in the league you need ta have that passing game which is why there gonna go .500

    ReplyDelete
  9. They have enough of a passing game to where they won't be run only. And right now teams are keying on Favre, as soon as they key on AP again Favre will produce. And really the Vikings are fortunate because the NFC just looks bad in general. There is no dominate teams this year. The Saints look drastically worse, and we all saw what happened to the Packers.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I dont see how the vikings can be put ahead of the bears in any way. they look like total shit on the field. there is no way anyone should be putting them ahead of the bears after the games that have been played already, just plain stupid. favre is bad this year, AP is a beast of course, but if someone stops him, lets say the Bears tenacious D, then what the hell are they gonna do if favre keeps his head in his old ass. nothing. and as for the lions, i think the lions are a lot better than everyone thinks they are, they have a solid D now, when stafford gets back and the running backs are healthy, watch out for them. i do like mikey c saying the Bears will go 11-5, very nice.

    ReplyDelete
  11. If we are going by the games already played then of course its Bears, Packers, Vikings, Lions. The Lions are starting to put it together, they just need to string some wins to build the confidence. But their main back isn't healthy so we will see.

    ReplyDelete
  12. This is what i am talking about every year the lions look like there getting better cant we just all admit that there not a good team already ha i mean come on man

    ReplyDelete
  13. idk man they pretty much beat the bears, yes officially the Bears won, but it doesn't change what we saw, they came very close to dropping the Eagles, and were right with the Vikings for 3 quarters. Its hard to tell how good they are but they arent jokes anymore, you dont come to play against them and they will make you pay.

    ReplyDelete
  14. To say that the Bears D is their problem is just ridiculous. Brian Urlacher is a monster it doesn't matter that hes older than most linebackers in the league he can flat out play. Peppers can control an offensive line by himself and their secondary isn't terrible. It's saying something when the Bears receiving threat on offense is their running back. As for the Lions being underrated, In my opinion they would at least have to have a win to be taken seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  15. and Collin i'm not dissing the Bears, im just saying they still have a lot to prove especially since they do have some flaws that need work. But heres credit where credit is due. The Bears are undefeated and thats all that matters. They are currently the best team in the NFC. Not many would have predicted they would be the last unbeaten this year. Catch or not they still had to play two more plays of defense against the Lions to win it, and Robbie Gould still had to kick it through against the Packers. So no one can say they don't deserve to be where they are.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Sorry but comparing this D to the 05 Bears D is just a joke. its just an average defense. They have a couple stars and a couple jokes on that D. Don't put them on a pedestal because they could play D on the one dimensional Packers.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Well if they could beat the one dimensional Packers they're not going to have a problem against the rest of the division seeing how the vikings are a running team and the lions have Calvin Johnson and their best running back is hurt.

    ReplyDelete
  18. The Lions and Vikings aren't that one dimensional. Best's injury is minor and he will be back soon, and when Stafford is back they will be able to run a decent offense. The Vikings problem isn't that they can't pass, it's that they insist on throwing the 60 yard bombs. They still have pro bowl caliber guys in Shiancoe and Harvin. Hopefully Favre notices this and just makes the 10-15 yarders that they shouldn't be having problems with.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Glen saying that the Vikings aren't one dimensional is like me saying that the Packers aren't one dimensional because Aaron Rodgers can run and throw. Percy Harvin won't make the pro bowl as a receiver and the Vikings as of now are one dimensional.

    ReplyDelete
  20. After thinking about it some of my comments where very biased and contained false info. The Bears arent filth. They lack a few things that can turn them into a contender. Their receiving core is bad. They need to obviously develop a ground game and i dont know why they cant do it with forte. Experts say because of martz's offense but he was able to give marshall faulk the yards. The lions (yes this is a could be statement) could be the best two dimensional team IF stafford and best arent injured. But theres alot of ifs i guess. IF grant wasnt hurt the packers would be a very good two dimensional team. If Favre and his recievers had developed charisma the vikings would be two dimensional. We need to remember that its early and so much can happen.Honestly i believe if the Vikings want to contend i think they need to give Jackson a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  21. schetter i have to disagree with ya grant will not make the packers a two dimension team there is no real difference between jackson and grant there both not starting RB's

    ReplyDelete
  22. I agree with Mike saying that grant wouldn't make the Packers two dimensional but in his defense he runs a lot tougher than Jackson. I personally see Kuhn as a more effective back than Jackson because he picks up positive yardage on every down.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I agree kuhn should be the primary back until grant comes around and even then should get 30 percent of the carries

    ReplyDelete
  24. Two consecutive 1200 yard seasons. 11 tds last year. Look i am know where near a Ryan Grant fan, i dont like him at all and never have. But to say hes not a starting back is a kinda crazy. Kuhn i agree is better then jackson and i actually like kuhn. Grant gets the job done, but very quietly. Personally i have wanted a different back since he started playing, but he has made the packers two dimensional the last two season he has played.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm just gonna jump right in here. I like some of the pionts you made here, but I disagree with a lot. I don't see the bears winning this division. that d isn't very good and cutler throws way too many bady passes. and after looking at the schedule, it isnt the toughest but they could lose their last 4 games. Did i just read that the Packers have "decent receivers"? they have one of the best if not the best receivers cores in all of football. they can get to 11-12wins this year. Vikings they suck. glen get off the vikings dick please. i think the lions are better than what you think. I'm not saying there a .500 team but they got some nice pieces there. good coach nice rookie running back great reciever suh is dominant as expected. they are improving. and lastly I know this is a little off topic but can i expect a Mcnabb returning to Philly blog coming soon?

    ReplyDelete
  26. ha u read my mind thats tomorrows blog so stay tuned for that

    ReplyDelete
  27. Packers are the best in the division but not by much. The bears have looked impressive so far, not all of the wins have been pretty but a win is a win. Their defense isnt that great. Aaron Rodgers torched the secondary but the Packers need more than just him 2 step up. I think Detroit is better than last year but the Stafford injury really hurts them. With Staford i think the Lions are a better team than the Vikings, however they dont have Stafford so they are for sure the worst team in the division. The vikings have a good defense but other than AP a below average offense. The WR injuries hurt the Vikings but what hurts them the most is their diva quarterback who doesnt have 2 show up 2 training camp and then has the audasity to compalin about chemistry with the receivers. Favre is way 2 big of a diva and way past his prime, he doesnt put in the work to be an NFL quarterback and it has cleary shown this year. The divison will finish: Packers, Bears, Vikings, Lions. The pack and Bears finishing one or 2 games apart and the vikings and lions finishing 1 or 2 games apart a long way down from the packers.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I agree with schetter Ryan Grant is consistent for the Packers offense but he wouldn't be my first pick for my team either. But the Packers don't need a flashy running back they just need one that can pick up 2-3 yards every run. And that's why I think Kuhn will start getting more carries. The Vikings shouldn't be counted out already anonymous.... They still have AP and just because Favre got off to a bad start doesn't mean he can't straighten his issues out.

  29. Truthfully its too early to speculate on the strength of the north until they play teams from other divisions. I mean every division has great teams, but every single great team has its flaw:

NFC North- I still think its between GB and Min, once they fix their one problem each. Chi has a few weaknesses that will take longer to fix. Steve Young said it best when he said the Bears are a year behind the Pack; they are very young and inexperienced.

NFC South- Even the Super Bowl champs have their flaws in the defense. It should be a tight race between NO and ATL.

NFC East- Vick can only do so much in Philly. Teams will figure him out. The Redskins have some talent, and so do the Cowboys, but no great teams in that division.

NFC West- I havent seen too much of these teams, but SEA seems to be surprising people with Caroll. They could come away with the west, with SF possibly challenging them if they can pull their potentially dangerous offense together.

AFC North- This may be one of the stronger divisions. PIT can win without a QB, which should strike fear into the rest of the league when Ben comes back. Cincy and BAL seem to find ways to compete every year as well.

AFC South- The Texans and Colts will own this thing. I still see the IND taking it, and maybe HOU can grab a wild card spot. TENN is a mess right now with CJ not playing up to his standards and VY was pulled last week.

AFC East- Another very strong division. After playing poorly in week 1, the Jets seem to have their s*it together now. They have to hope that Revis will be healthy. NE's defense seems weak. The Dolphins are playing well, but they may not have all the pieces to make a playoff run.

AFC West- SD never plays well in Sept., but they will have to turn themselves around soon if they want to challenge the surprising Cheifs. I haven't watched KC play, but they must be legit if they are one of 3 undefeated teams.

Sorry Mikey I kind of blogged on your blog haha.

  30. I'm open to any discussion but if your gonna tell me the Vikings are the worse team in the division you best bring something to the table. This is the same team that dominated the division last year, turned the ball over 7 times, and still took the Super Bowl champs to OT in the NFC Championship game. I understand this isn't last year. But losing Chester Taylor and Rice for half the year shouldn't make them a suddenly awful team. They sucked at the start of last year two but had the blessing of a kind schedule. When they hit stride have fun watching them roll. Stop with all the biased Favre posts too. Its all about who is getting keyed on. Last year AP struggled because he was the one getting keyed on but no one questioned what he could do. This year teams are keying on Brett and everyones getting in on it. I watched this guy the last decade in Green and Gold doing the same crap and yet still winning games. Yes im sure all the illegal hits in the NFC Championship took his toll, but I doubt it matters with Brett. Whoever thinks it effecting him you were probably talking the same shit about him last year after his shoulder surgery.

  31. ha no problemo alex i like the full break down very interesting disagree with u a bit though
    NFC North - Bears
    NFC South - Saints
    NFC East - Eagles
    NFC West - Seahawks
    AFC North - Ravens
    AFC South - Texans
    AFC East - Patriots
    AFC West - Chargers

    ReplyDelete
  32. i agree with schetter. ryan grant has the legit talent to be a solid starter in the nfl. if he plays with the fire he did in '07 and mccarthy gets his shit together, he can be extremely effective. but as it is, jackson is nothing more than a third down back at best. hes quick in the open field but doesnt have a real burst or the physicality to move the pile. barring any major injuries or changes, i see the divison finishing as such. GB: 12-4, CHI: 10-6, Vikings: 9-7, Lions: 5-11. we will really be able to see how the division is top to bottom when the NFC north teams play the teams from the AFC east.

    ReplyDelete
  33. WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWO BACK UP GLEN, "illegal hits in the NFC Championship game" that is just silly talk that was great pressure to the QB which eventually led to us making him get scared and throw an interception "illegal hits" sheesh come on man

    ReplyDelete
  34. I agree with alex in every single division, Steelers look poised to make another Super Bowl run, its scary that they are this good without Ben. I always thought Grant was a little over rated. Last year he really left the Packers in a flux in big games. He could run for big numbers on bad teams, but was awful against good teams.

  36. I agree with mike on division winners except for the bears and texans. The Bears still lost to the lions so im not too high on them yet, packers still take the division. Also, the Colts are still gonna get past the Texans; Peyton Manning and that team are too talented not too.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hence why I personally don't think Favre can't get it done, his first pick in that game was the direct result of a illegal hit, and the second pick may have resulted because of that hit too, because he clearly had room to run and let longwell kick it. The second part is speculation. Don't get me wrong the Vikings still deserved to lose.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Glen if there is one thing you should no about me... if im biased towards for it because he is my favorite player of all time. I even loved watching him last year. I do believe Favre is physically capable of being a quarterback. At the moment though he doesnt look mentally prepared to be on the field. The Vikings as i have said before just do not have the charisma or chemistry at the moment to be a top team. Hence i said at the moment. As the season progresses i do expect this to change. Sometimes i think the most consecutive win records means more to brett then a lot of things.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I agree, I was mostly replying to the posts saying that if Favre showed up to camp things would be different. They wouldn't be. Most of the receiving corps wasn't there either so what difference would it have made? The only guy he looks really out of sync with is Berrian, and a lot of that is on Childress for trying to turn Berrian into Rice. Favre has made some bad throws but ultimately it doesn't help when the coaches are setting him up for failure. They won't have a dynamic passing game without Rice, but theres no reason they cant pass at all. Shiancoe is a top 5 tight end, Percy can make plays, and Camarillo, although not much of a player, has some of the best hands in the NFL. They have weapons, they need to utilize them, and quick before the Bears or Pack get too far in front.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Glen don't get started with "illegal hits" on a quarterback. The league rules have become ridicolous as far as "protecting the QB" Most of these guys are exceptional athletes and should be treated as such. Injuries will happen, (for Qb's lacking an offensive line and a talent to get rid of the ball), however injuries implement league parody and opportunities for backups to shine (Ex- Matt Cassel)Let these guys play so Monday nigh countdown can bring back (Jacked Up)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Oh and BTW, this Anonymous guy is pretty smart.

    ReplyDelete
  42. im not downplaying the legitimacy of the game. But coming into last year I hated Brett even into the playoffs I still hated the guy. After watching this game I will never question this guys competitiveness again. Most NFL qbs could take 2 or 3 of these hit before they would be gone, hell Brees would have been gone in the second quarter. Just take a look at this video. Most of these hits would be called. The way they let Brett get hit was insane. Heck they called Collins for picking a guy up but they didnt in this game. Saints did a great job of bringing pressure and thats what ultimately won the game. But dont watch this video then tell me the Saints werent trying to injure the guy. If you dont think any of these hits were illegal then your fucking retarded.

  43. I think the Packers will turn it around and will have a great season. I'm going with 12-4. Yeah they lost to "da bears" but they also had 18 penalties that game. If they can be more disciplined and fix that, then I think they will be fine.
