The AFC East

Alright the votes are in and the AFC East is the topic for Friday's discussion.  In this division you have the Patriots, Dolphins, Bills, and Jets.  Aside from the Bills this is a really tough division and should be feared around the league.  So lets take a look team by team.  In 4th place in this division I am going to put the Buffalo Bills.  This should come as no surprise ha.  It almost sad for this team to be placed in this division because things don't look like there going to change.  Edwards who was supposed to be the starting after being the best man on the team is no longer good enough to even be on the team.  Fitzpatrick is no where near good enough to really change anything for the Bills.  CJ Spiller finally showcased his talent last week by returning a long kickoff.  But Spiller looks like he might need a season or too before he reaches his full potential.  Which should be fine for the Bills considering they have Lynch and Jackson.  I have the Bills going below .500, how bad will it be?  I am not really sure but it will be bad.  Now it gets tough all the remaining teams currently have the same record and have all proven to be pretty good this year.  But if you look carefully you can really see who best team truly is.  So in 3rd place are the Miami Dolphins.  Third place usually doesn't seem to be a good idea but in this division it means your pretty good.  Since Bill Parcels has arrived he started changing the way the Dolphins play football.  And apparently it worked the past couple seasons Miami has done a 180 in the right direction.  They have a solid offense with Henne, Brown, and Marshall.  And there defense can not be overlooked.  They did suffer there first loss last week to divisional opponent New York Jets, but they really looked good considering the defense.  I have the Dolphins going 10-6 but possibly missing the playoffs due to such a tough division.  The second best team is the New England Patriots.  The Pats came out shooting against the Bengals and made it look like the ole Tom Brady was back.  And then they face the New York Jets in week two and the offense just couldn't compete with the elite defense.  But the Patriots in the long run will be fine.  I mean they only have to play the Jets once more in the regular season.  Tom Brady is still an amazing QB and the rest of the offense looks great.  Randy Moss is still a great deep threat and Wes Welker is still the work horse for this team.  The D looks to have a couple of wholes but all around are pretty solid.  I am going to put the Patriots at 11-5, and making the playoffs(this time 11-5 will be enough ha).  Now the first team in the division the New York Jets.  If you would have asked me to rank this division pre-regular season I would have had the Jets two or maybe even three.  But games don't lie and the Jets have had some great games.  Week one it was a offensive struggle for both teams and they lose 10-9 but really the Jets had plenty of opportunities to win that game.  Now here is the great part the Jets beat the Pats 28-14 and beat the Dolphins 31-23.  So the Jets have beaten the number 2 and 3 teams in there division and I am not too worried about them beating the Bills.  Its all about that D-Fense and how Rex puts in those blitz's and coverages.  It really is a work of art to watch how he calls the defensive plays.  Reevis might miss this week but they get lucky with having to play the Bills.  Now to the offensive side they have a great two running back run game with Greene and Tomilson.  Sanchez can be a great QB he still needs a couple of years but hey the D and the run game seem to be working fine for New York so they don't need a elite QB like the rest of the league.  I have a 12-4 finish for this team and will be interesting to see how they do in the playoffs.  This division is tough I mean really tough.  Could this be the toughest division in the AFC? or the NFL?  Now it's your turn to leave your comments, thanks for another great day yesterday but we can do better, make sure to spread the word about the blog.  Also keep clicking on those ads on the right side of the web page and click the wikio button. *****You can get to the wikio button by getting back to the homepage and right underneath each blog on the left is a wikio button click them for each blog it gives me votes which also helps traffic-------------Mikey C

  1. Well lets get started. I do believe this is the best division in the NFL even though the Bills are in this division. there is a possibiltity you could have three teams with 10 or more wins and you rarely see that. even though the jets beat the pats and the fins i see them finishing 3rd, but these teams will only be seperated by a game or two. the dolphins play the pats on monday night in a huge divisional game and think the winner of that game will ultimately win this division. I think that dolphins team can make a run now that Henne and Marshall have got it going. I don't think that Dirty Sanchez can keep up his good play throughout the whole season. Although Santonio hasnt played yet so maybe they will get better on offense. Tom and Randy and that offense will make up for that defense. with belichek running that d I think they will be fine.

  2. Jeff Sisel you dont get it the Jets dont need Sanchez ta do good, they just need him to not turn the ball over. This is how they played last year and it got them all the way to the conference championship game. Now Sanchez has more experience and will do even better than last year. How can you but the Jets third when they confidently beat the Pats and beat the Dolphins???

  3. their running game is not as good as it was last year and jenkins is out, although they just signed trevor pricefrom the ravens, and revis isnt healthy. Im not saying they have no chance at finishing first or second I just dont think they are better than the pats or fins. they beat the pats at home after getting dominated in the first half and they shouldve lost to the doplhins, but they dropped a touchdown catch at the end. they also need shonn green not to turn the ball over cause he's been fumbling a lot and not looking good.

  4. This is by far the best divison in football; the only division that comes close is the AFC South with the Colts and Texans. Agreed that the Jets win this division with the Pats taking second. Tom Brady is too experienced and talented to have his team outside of the playoffs so they will most likely nab a wildcard spot. Miami I feel is still below these to teams but can still manage a 9 win season.

  5. Jeff Sisel how can you say there running game got worse when they picked up a solid two back in LT. I mean ta me it looks a lot better this year. And how can you say there not better than the Pats and Fins they beat them both the Pats by 14 and the Fins by 8 so what if the Pats were dominating they got beat by two TD's and the Fins even if they get that TD catch they gotta get a two point conversion and push it to overtime.

  6. How is there running game better without thomas jones and leon washington and even Danny Woodhead?

  7. It's easily the best division in football. Anyone could win this thang. I think its the Jets division to lose. They have a solid running game with LT and Greene, and their defense is top two in the NFL (Steelers). The Pats are always strong though and the Phins can compete with any team as well. Should turn out to be a great battle.

  8. you gotta remember that the jets finished 9-7 last year. they just barely got into the playoffs when teams decided to rest their starters (Colts). they have a great defense, arguably the best this year. but they are also one dimensional on offense. as mark sanchez progresses and gets comfortable in the nfl, they will be able to have an efficient offense to go with that defense. until then, you just dont know what you will get this offense. because of this i have to think that the pats will take the division. they have a great passing game in an era where passing teams get such an advantage. they are experienced and know what it takes to win a division. the dolphins are in a tough spot. they potentially could get the second wildcard spot but itll be tough with the emergence of the texans. i believe the texans will beat them out though. and the bills suck. just terrible.

  9. as a dolphins fan from the age of 6, i have a good feeling about this year. They came up just short in the jets game and sanchez will not perform like that all year. They pats have always struggled in Miami and will struggle this game. Their defense is down, the bills put up 30 on them last week and Henne is lookin like a damn good quarterback. My prediction for monday night is a heavy dose of Ronnie Brown and the Henne-Marshall combination going for 2 TDs with a dolphins win. O and as for the jets...FUCK THE JETS revis is hurt cause hes a lazy piece of shit, sanchez isnt very good right now, dont even get me started on Edwards, and they just seem like a team with a lot of pressure thats just waiting to implode. Final standings in the division 1.Miami 2.New England 3.Jets(they play terrible the last 4-5 games and 4.Bills. Enough said.

  10. pats are done as a dynasty. jets take 1st, dolphins 2nd, pats 3rd, and bills 4th. pats lack a running game now that kevin faulk is done for the season and they traded away Maroney. they now have to rely on fred taylor who is like 33 years old and benjarvis green-ellis (funnest name to say in the nfl hahaha). i like the dolphins defense, and their offense is revolved around the running game (Williams and Brown)good setup for success. the jets better hope derelle revis didn't screw their chances by sitting out the preseason and conveniently getting injured. I'm not a fan of pro athletes that complain about money. Javon Walker where are you now?

  11. The bills dont deserve to play football. they stink. As for the rest of the division, its going to be a close race... but i think the jets are going to pull it off. Jets 1 Pats 2 and Miami 3. With Revis on the field they may be the best defense in the game. Without Revis they are still damn good. Rex has developed a great game plan and as Mikey said before its load of fun to watch. It really was fun to watch Sanchez develop. I know alot of people aren't on board yet but i really think the guy can play. i was surprised to see him last week play so well. So much attention around Edwards arrest can really affect a team negatively. Watch out, they are the real deal! As for the pats, i think they are on the downfall...sorry sisel. Their offense is still damn good with the recievers and Brady but they are yet another team without a run game. The problem is they dont have a great defense and thats why i dont think they will get it done. Miami is a great team dont get me wrong. They are just in a tough conference and i dont think henne has the maturity to go 16 games as a true winner yet.

  12. this is a great division, to me there is no best team but 3 very good teams. I still consider the Pats the best team in this division. I agree that the Jets are good enough without Sanchez. But they are not better than the Pats without Sanchez. It's really a toss up between the Jets and Pats for first. The fins will be good but maybe a year or two from playoffs simply because of how good this division is.
